Hello, I'm a newbie hoping for a little help.
My wife plugged a French AZERTY USB keyboard into my old Inspiron 2600, now the built in keyboard no longer works properly, several keys do not work or produce the wrong characters. The device list shows microsoft 101/102 keyboard instead of the 86 key built in unit.
There must be a way to get the built in keyboard working but I cannot find it, Dell are not helpfull.![]()
Help I need it! I use it for the suspension on my Range Rover and i don't want to carry a plug in keyboard...
Thanks.

Check regional options in the Control Panel and Keyboard layout under keyboard, or is it under regional options as well...?

Unfortunatly it's not that simple. I have tried all those options, I have even reinstalled the complete system and checked the bios. Nothing I can find brings back full functionality to the 86 key keyboard -
Does the external keyboard work? Is it a PS/2 keyboard or USB?
Also, what keys aren't functioning?
Have you reseated the keyboard cable: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins2600/en/sm_en/keyboard.htm#999636
Worst case, you can try replacing it: http://www.google.com/products?q=de...lr=&c2coff=1&safe=off&sa=N&tab=ff&oi=froogler
Weird as it sounds, also tighten any screws lableled "K" on the bottom of the system. -
External keyboard works fine either as PS/2 or USB and shows in the device manager as microsoft 101/102 key. I can configure the external keyboards as UK or French. Most of the keys work on the internal keyboard but some give the wrong character with or without the PS/2 or USB keyboards connected. Some special keys work but the CR (enter) key, space bar and one or 2 others don't work. The keyboard is fine, I just need the get the 85/86 key driver back that disappeared after the USB keyboard was plugged in by mistake.
