I just ordered an Inspiron 5150 couple days ago after reading some positive reviews from PCWorld and PCMag. (I'm pretty sure cnet gave a good review as well)

However, it seems many MANY users here complain about its problems, especially overheating.

Please, if you are familiar with the 5150 with hands on experience, graciously explain some specific issues. I am really curious and a bit concerned about this.

    Thank you.

PS Has Dell addressed the issue with 5160? I'm seriously considering returning the 5150 before ever opening the box and getting 5160.

I had the 5150 for about 3 months. I had problems with my screen, but they don't offer the UXGA resolution anymore, so that is not an issue. I never had overheating problems, but I also would use compressed air and shoot some air in the vents surrounding the processor because for a poor design, dust can collect in that area and cause the overheating that other users experienced.

Overall, I thought the perfomance of the machine was good, if you don't mind the heavy weight.

I would suggest getting the 5160, because they probably made some adjustments to it, AND they use a magnesium alloy casing, which I think is a plus, making it more sturdy.

    Hope that helps.

I got it this morning and indeed, it is quite fast and heavy. But I played two DVDs within a five hour period (AC plug of course) and the temperature has been tolerable.

Hate to bother you any further but how did yours act in the first few days? If this starts overheating in two months I can definitely see how I'll get upset as well because it looks like a pretty good machine...so far.

    Thanks
