    Hi

I just got a new Inspiron 6000, and one strange thing about it is that the fans do not stop, while the laptop is plugged in.

I'm using a program called Centrino Hardware Control to monitor the temperature of the CPU and other parameters, and it reports that the CPU temperature is usually around 36 Centrigrade (just below human body temerature), when the laptop is idle, yet the fans keep humming.

Are any Inspiron 6000 owners seeing the same thing?

i think that is just a dell thing. I have the 9300 and it does the same thing. The fans run nonstop, but they are quiet so i don't notice them very often.

The fans in my Inspiron 6000 are actually pretty noisy. If I'm sitting next to it in the kitchen, I can hear both the laptop and the refrigerator. I don't think having the fans constantly switching on and off would be less annoying, but the fans are definitely not quiet.

weird, you may wanna get it serviced. my fans are so quiet that when i'm using my 6000 at 2am in a perfectly quiet bedroom, i can barely tell they're running.

maybe you got some faulty hardware?

My 6000 mostly starts up the fan when I'm gaming or on hot days.

I noticed something else. The noise is coming from the grille on the back, next to the left hinge. This is also an area that shows shoddy assembly: the inner metal grille is slightly misaligned with the black plastic outer cover. Could it be that the poor assembly is related to the noise?

In any case, I have an IBM Thinkpad X32 sitting next to Dell Inspiron 6000. One of them is going back to the manufacturer within the next 2 weeks. I'm leaning more and more towards sending the Inspiron back, even though it's cheaper, and the X32 needs an external optical drive.

Actually the 6000 has ONLY ONE FAN, and it should be running whenever your laptop is powered on, my epxerience is that the 6000 fan is rather quiet, and fairly efficient at cooling thanks to the lack of any seriously powered video cards no doubt. My 9300 fans are always running though low speed and quiet, my system stays at under 40 most of the time, I dont like any of my systems to run higher than 45 on the cpu, and cool them adequately to keep them in this zone.

My fan is always on but mostly in "quiet mode" unless I play a video game then about 5 minutes after starting a game, the fan goes into "noisy mode" to keep everything cool.
