I was just surfing the net and my 6000 just died. It will not boot up any more. I have tried with the battery only, with power plugged in and with no battery but with it plugged in.
Could it be a heat issue? Does anybody have any ideas on what could be going on? Luckily I have 2 weeks left on my warrenty.

No errors or any kind of warnings? Any lights when plugged in?
Easy way to tell if it was a heating issue -- is your laptop really hot? If you haven't had heating issues before, then i'm would be surprise that this would be the problem. From my experience, if it was a heated related issue, then generally it was happening early on the notebook's life.
I was going to guess either CPU or harddrive failure.
Try leaving your laptop off and unplugged for a few hours, then try rebooting it. If it doesn't restart back up after a few hours, then it most likely won't be a heating issue. -
do you get any indication that your HD is being addressed? Open open up your HD enclosure and check the cable and any of the other peripheral connections; memory is seated in its slot(s); then try a start. If it's intermittant heat, SouthernCalGirl's Dx is to follow and you should be initiating the "paper trail" to support your RMA claim if you still have warranty left. If you do have time left, document everything including time and name of each CSR you contact at DELL until it's resolved. (Remember science class and the "notebook" thing...it's been so helpful to me on the occassions I've needed to "prove up" my conversations with customer service.) Conversations with Linksys comes to mind when I named persons, date and time for each contact. Any reputable company will not blow you off if you have that documentation. More so, if you're out of warranty.

It did not feel hot so I did not think it was a heat issue but have never seen a machine shut down like that before. It just turned off and will not boot. I have never had a machine do this before. Has anybody else seen this?
I pulled out the HD and put it back but no dice. Did the same with the ram. -
My guess would be power supply or cpu failure.

I've had shutdowns like that before, but never to the extent a computer won't restart. I'll follow Wilton on saying power supply, but that's totally a guess... Use that warrenty, brother!

Well considering it wasn't hot, then I highly doubt it is a heat problem. It really could be a number of things which some have already been suggested.
Your best bet is to call dell, and let them look at it. -
Can that be the Inspiron 1300?
