Being on a tight budget at the moment, I saw two good deals for an Inspiron 6000. They both came out about the same price ($800) but:

one had the Pentium M 7
    35 (1.70GHz/400FSB) processor with 1GB RAM,

    the other ha
    d the Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz/533FSB) processor with 512MB RAM.

So which would be better ; faster processor and less RAM or the other way around.

    Thanks.

I would go with the faster processor since it is the hardest to upgrade. You can always upgrade your RAM, which with dell it is always best to buy the smallest amount. Then go to newegg.com or somewhere else and buy your sticks.

Personally I'd just get the Gig of RAM because the difference in performance of 30Mhz is minimal at best. 1 GB will allow allow alot more flexability if your sticking to the $800 price tag. It really should be enough for the life of the notebook so you wouldn't have to worry about anything in the future.

Or, if it ends up being cheaper, buy 512MB and the 1.7 Proc and get more RAM @ newegg as southerngirl said.

I agree with bombledmonk that doubling the RAM will give you more boost in performance, but I would go with 740 then upgrade to 1 GIG whenever I could. It's much cheaper.
