Unfortunately my 6000 also has faded palmrests, particularly on the left side (I guess my left hand sweats more. My right speaker gril and left touchpad button are also discolored. I don't think there is anything we can do short of going threw the trouble of getting a replacement palm rest and putting it on.

I've got what looks like dirt marks on my 6000 palmrest -- except the dirt doesn't come clean. One "blotch" is on the far left, the others are towards the bottom right of the palmrest, in between the touchpad and the stickers.

it seems to be normal...and i've seen that on macbook...
the weird thing is my X1 is approaching 1 yr old and i haven't notice any fading yet...
and on my 2 yr old asus w5a there is no sign of fading yet... -
this is gay ... i wish we can change it to aluminum or something.. ionno.. thanks guys.

I had the same problem on mine. Luckly, the touchpad on my old 6000d broke, and Dell had to replace the palm rest under warranty.
After I received the laptop back, I kept the plastic that protects the palm rests, and it still looked like new after a year. Actually, I preferred the feel of the protector plastic to the palm rests, so it was all good. -
Yea my left palm rest on my e1505 is starting to fade as well, kinda sucks cause I have seen my friends notebooks that have faded a lot and it just looks horrible...
Its not really because your left hand sweats more, but more that your right hand is usually situated on the mouse or the touchpad, and your left is always planted on the a-s-d keys...
wondering if its possible to try and respray the small portion the same color when it fades enough...anyone know hte exact paint i should be looking for? -
Real simple... I install a couple of strips of 3M clear packaging tape on these areas. Wears like iron, won't peel off unless you want it to. I use my notebook surface as a mousing surface for my micromouse when I'm traveling. When you sell it, just peel it off. It comes off just fine with no residue and it won't pull the paint off. Keeps it like new and is virtually invisible.
