I am running Windows XP SP 3. I am getting a Code 19 error on the CD drive which is a NEC 6500A. The system no longer sees it. I have tried to find a driver that will work but the downloads available are flash drivers which my system will not recognize when I try to install them. I am getting desperate.
Recently I upgrade some Intel chipsets and am wondering if this caused it. Anyway I need a workable driver for the internal CD.

Did you try deleting the ide driver?
-
Yes I tried that. Nothing happened other than that the IDE reinstalled itself successfully.
-
The drivers for the CD Rom are included with the operating system. The problem that you are having is most likely a "filters" issue caused by the removal or installation of programs like I-tunes and Realplayer.

Thanks Jak. I will check it out. But I am wondering if an MS automatic upgrade threw my system out of balance.

I followed your suggested instructions, downloaded the program in the link, ran it and PRESTO....it worked. Thanks a lot man.....I greatly appreciate it. -
Glad it worked!
It is a pretty common problem.
