Hi all,
I have the Inspiron 6000 and I thought I'd plug it into my Pioneer Elite receiver. Well, the sound is a disgrace! I tried the CD input and the Tape1 input and both sound scratchy and horrible.
Is this because the soundcard cant handle this? Does anyone else listen to MP3's from their laptop through their stereo? I'm wondering if my high current receiver is too much?
Thanks for any tips!

how are you connected?

did u try using regular speakers to connect to your laptop and listen to the music through there??...and see if the problem stays there as well??

when i listen to my MP3's with my speakers and subwoofer from my old PC plugged into the headphones jack, they sound fine.
I bought my RCA cord from Radio Shack and I've plugged into the receiver on the CD ports and Tape1 ports, both sound really crackly, and I thought maybe it's my on board sound card??
Is there something I need to configure on the laptop maybe? Or do I connect via a different connection on the receiver? -
if it sounds ok thru other speakers, i would hazard a guess that it's a setting on your receiver or the cable you bought.
i regularly plug my 6000 into a receiver when i play movies on my TV and need an audio output. it sounds just fine.
if it sounds ok elsewhere, i'd say it's safe to assume that the laptop isn't the point of failure, but either the cable or the receiver (settings) -
great thanks! good to know its not the laptop soundcard, which I feared. I'll do some investigation and see what the prob is, then repost

Just an FYI...
Adjusting the levels of the soundcard solves the problem
Its crystal clear, no buzzing, or crackling -- I'm lovin' it!
Cheers,

An update about this:
When connecting your laptop to a receiver, spend the money and get a MONSTER audio cable ($35 CDN) to connect -- then you can have your sound card as loud as you want, and also CRANK the tunes with zero distortion, just like it's a CD
I made the mistake of buying an $8 CHEAP cable from Radio Shack (The Source now), and I had to lower the volume of the sound card, and it sounded OK, you just couldn't crank it.
So for you all having probs with this like I had, spend the extra $25 and you wont be disappointed
