    Hi-

I have had my Inspiron 6000 for quite a while now and recently upgraded the hard drive and ram (80 gb hard drive and 2 gb ram). When I rebooted into windows (xp mce) I did my normal stuff but when I went into windows media player, I noticed that the media buttons on the front of the computer didn't respond. Only the play/pause button works. If you could help me get them to work again, that would be great. And sorry if this has been asked already.

Reïnstall your sound drivers from your recovery cd. Then look that there is a microphone displayed at the right-bottom of your screen (near your clock).

I have the same problem on one of my 6000 lappys. Hopefully someone has a solution. I even took it apart to make sure the wires didn't come lose but to no avail. Drivers didn't help me and sound works fine, MIC too. Just the buttons.

i did that awhile ago too. i might contact dell support (despite how horrible their service is right now) and ask them to look at it because, as i now recall, this issue came up after a tech came and replaced my motherboard. ill keep looking for drivers and tell you the outcome of the repair.
