    Hey, first post here.

    I just got an Inspiron 6000 w/ the WUXGA Ultra-sharp – 1920x1200 res screen.

Everything looks great, especially my pictures and movies. However, internet explorer images look grainy. It's pretty annoying, and I was wondering if there was a way to make the images clear. I was thinking since my photos look so clear, it must just be a setting for internet explorer.

    Any ideas?

like if just images look grainy it's cause they're compressed.
this isn't a problem with the laptop, just the low quality source of the images.
try checking a high quality image and seeing if that changes anything

    Yeah, I'm sure.

I usually use Opera as a browser, but I haven't got around to it. I'm not certain Opera will be better, so I'd still like to fix the IE problem.

Well, it's all images, from pictures to banners on the top of pages. Not just individual pictures.

The text is clear as can be though. I appreciate your help.

set your dpi to 96. the default from dell is 120 which makes things look fuzzy.

    also, enable cleartype.

    run at native res.

wuxga should be crisp and clear. i could never go back to anything lower.

Thanks, changing the dpi solved the problem.

Next question, where can I find the cleartype setting? I just want to check if it's already on.

for clear type, I think the setting is under the appearance tab. Click on Effects, and you will see something in the 2nd box that can be checked about smooth fonts - make sure the drop down box has cleartype.
