My screen went black. Did some research and found it it was most likely the inverter. I replaced the inverter but it still flickers and then goes black while its booting up. How can I tell if this is the back light or if this is the lcd itself? I've heard the backlight is hard to replace and I might have to take it somewhere to have it done which would cost $$. Also, the last time it was working the bottom right corner of the bezel was extremely hot and there was what looked like a little black burn mark on the screen that just covered up the time. Could this be pointing to the lcd and not the backlight?

When the screen goes black, do you mean it goes completely black with no images at all? Or does it display images very faintly if you look at it in direct light? If it's the former, then it indicates the LCD itself is bad. If it still displays images but doesn't illuminate, then it's probably the backlight itself, since you've ruled out the inverter.
You might as well just get a new display in either case. They come with backlights and it's much simpler to replace the whole display than to replace just the CCFL backlight tube. -
Thats what I was thinking about doing. I can get a replacement LCD on ebay for about $60 and its easy enought replace myself.
It does still display images under direct light so it probably is the backlight. -
Yep, that sounds about right.
I'm actually thinking about replacing my WXGA CCFL display in my Studio 1535 with either a WXGA+ LED or a WUXGA CCFL display sometime soon.
Inspiron 6000 screen (already replaced inverter)
