    I have an Inspiron 6000 notebook (1.5 Centrino, 768mb ram, 40gb hdd, intel 915).
Recently the screen turns bright green at random. I know that it's not the operating system, because the computer still works, you can still hear the sounds, the network connection is still active, etc.
I've called Dell support only to be told that it can be many things, but they don't know how to determine what the problem is.
Did anyone here ever experience similar problems with their laptops?
I've had the laptop for about eight months and already had to repair it three times, due to various fauls.

I suggest installing the most up-to-date drivers for Intel's 915 integrated graphics.

If your screen still exhibits the problems, I would think it is hardware related. If are still under warranty, get the screen replaced. If it still exhibits the problem, you'll have to discuss your options with Dell as to replacing the notebook because it could be a more serious hardware problem. I'm not sure what kind of warranty you have so your options with Dell will be limited by you warranty.

can you elaborate on "green" screen?

is it all green? green tint? can you still see things, but they're "green"ish? does it go back to normal? how?

    more info needed.

    hey drumfu,
they say that a picture paints a thousand words, so here's what the laptop looks like:

The only way to get it back to normal is to switch it off.
    Hope this helps

    that

    is

    definitely

    GREEN!!!

    holy moly.

ok, can you elaborate on the previous issues you've had with this computer? (just want to get all my ducks in a row before we start going down troubleshooting paths that we don't need to).

also, did you try uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers? (i'd recommend using dell's driver, but it won't hurt to try both)

you said it happens at random... have you noticed any kind of pattern since?

have you made any hardware upgrades to the computer?

    dropped?

    spilled stuff?

the bottom line is that if it's not a driver issue, it looks like a hardware problem.

if you've had enough problems with the computer maybe you can raise a stink to get a replacement?

ok here's a quick problem history:
two days after I got the notebook the touchpad stopped working and had to be replaced.
Then about four months later I had to get the keyboard replaced because some of the keys came off.
Then, this morning I had my DVD/CdRW drive replaced, because the original one stopped working.

I did reinstall the drivers. It doesn't let me install the drivers from the Intel site, only the ones that came with my system.

I upgraded the ram, but that was after the touchpad broke.

I didn't drop the computer, nor did I spill anything on it.

This error occurs when I have three or four programs open on the computer, for example After Effects, Photoshop, Flash, Winamp and Firefox(4+tabs).
The strange thing that I noticed, is that it only occurs if Firefox is open. I know that this makes absolutely no sense, just an intresting coincidence.

First time I ever seen that happen. Try updating your graphic card drivers

You have to extract the "win2k_xp1420.exe" with any unzipping program. I suggest 7-Zip as it is free. Just point 7-Zip to extract the .exe file into a folder or wherever you want the driver files to go. You have to then update the graphics manually.

Go into your computers system properties (hold down winkey + Pause|Break). Go to the Device Manager under the Hardware tab. Under the display adapters right-click and click update driver. You'll get the Hardware Update Wizard and select "No, not this time" and click Next. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", then choose "Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install." The Wizard will then show you the compatible hardware you are choosing to update the drivers for. Click the "Have Disk..." button. Browse to where you extracted the win2k_xp1420.exe files with 7-Zip. Point to the .inf file in the Win2000 folder and you should be set.

This will update your Intel graphics drivers with the latest Intel drivers. I doubt Dell is supplying the latest drivers for your chipset. After your drivers are updated, see if your display still exhibits the green screen problem.
