    Hi,

After reading different reviews and messages about the Inspirons 6000 and 9300, I must say I have difficulty in making a choice.

I want to use the notebook for home and work, mainly text editing, Internet, photo editing, and some video editing (e.g. doing some family DVDs). Based on what is indicated on Dell's web site, the Inspiron 6000 is a little bit weak for video applications, but I hear a lot of complaints about the Inspiron 9300 and its screen.

Overall, the prices are not that different ($300) if you take the following configurations:

    INSPIRON 6000:
    - Pentium M 750 1.86Ghz
    - Microsoft XP Media Center Edition
    - 15.4 inch WSXGA+
    - 512MB RAM 1 Dimm
    - 64MB ATI x300
    - 60 GB Hard Drive

    INSPIRON 9300:
    - Pentium M 750 1.86Ghz
    - Microsoft XP Media Center Edition
    - 17 inch WXGA+
    - 512MB RAM 2 Dimms
    - 128MB ATI x300
    - 80 GB 7200rpm Hard Drive

    Any suggestion is appreciated,

    Oliver

The real reason for getting the I9300 is the GF Go6800. If you aren't going to get that, there's really no reason to spring for the I9300 unless you desperately need a huge screen.

Also, yes, the WUXGA screen has a "sparkling" issue that is well-documented around here, but the standard (and cheaper, I may add) WXGA+ screen doesn't have that problem. I've also heard that WUXGA is really too small for extended use.

dead pixels aren't worth worrying about unless they are in a spot that is highly noticable... Ie in the middle... of if they are all next to each other giving the effect of a gaping blank hole in your screen... Most people will never even notice if 1 goes out... or if a few don't have the capability of reproducing certain colors..
