    I am going to purchase a new Inspiron 6000D, and I can't decide if I should just get the 1.86GHz or if I should spent the extra hundred bucks to get the 2.0GHz. I think I will probably be fine with either one, but I have to wonder if I'll be able to tell the difference between the two down the road. If you were to decide which to get, would you spend the extra $100 and get the 2.0GHz or be happy with the 1.86GHz and spend the extra hundred bucks on a spare battery or something.

    Also, what does everyone think of Dell's complete care accidental damage warranty? The one that covers against spills and drops and such. I am thinking about getting the 3-year extended warranty with complete care accidental damage warranty. What are your experiences?

    ~~~I am looking to buy someone's left over 512MB DDR-2 PC4200 SODIMM
    ~~~(maybe out of a Dell Inspiron 6000, 9300, XPS, or Latitude D810)
    ~~~If you've got one to spare, please let me know.
    ok, here's the thing. I am not computer illiterate, not at all. But I am getting reimbursed for the price of the computer, including any warranty, up to a certain amount. Although on one hand I am sure that I could fix anything that might go wrong with the machine, on the other hand I still have one year of school for my undergraduate degree then quite a few years of graduate school...and I don't forsee having the money to fix something if it breaks in the future. As far as the accidental damage goes, how would my own insurance company cover that? I am not sure that if my daughter (who is 7 months old right now) some how pulled my laptop off of my desk at some point that any insurance, besides Dell's complete care warranty, would cover it. Please correct me if I am wrong.
    By the way, I have decided to go with the pentium-m 760 2.0GHz processor. I am just getting Dell's standard 256MB of RAM and upgrading it on my own (I already have one Hynix HYMP564S646-C4 PC2-4200 533MHz 512MB chip...just looking for one more from somewhere.)
    i didnt get any warranty whatsoever, and im damn glad I saved the money doing it
    however, i am a computer geek and 99.9% of the time I can fix my laptop or diagnose my problems myself.
    if you are illiterate u may want to think about some sort of warranty beyond the 1 year.
    As far as accidental, talk to your insurance company first, as many have posted on this topic before. See if dell's or your insurance is cheaper, then go for it.
    I got the accidental coverage, eventhough I do my own repairs. I've lost one notebook to an accident, so I got it for security. If you are getting reimbursed for it, I would go with the maximum amount that your reimbursement will cover. This way you aren't really going to lose anything and you will be covered.
    You are correct about the accidental coverage. If any spills, drops etc occur, then dell will either replace or repair your system. The only things that aren't covered by the Dell are fire damage or stolen property, but if you have home owner's insurance/rental insurance, this might be covered under it.
    Yes Wonka, you can get "accidental coverage" or something similar to the effect for your laptop at your insurance agency.
    All you need to do is call them and explain that you would like coverage for a 1,000 dollar laptop that would include coverage on any sort of accident such as either losing the thing entirely or dropping it and breaking it.
    I have no clue if its more or less expensive than Dell's warranty, so be sure to call and check it out.
    This is what insurance agencies do, they protect things from accidents, just like your car or engagement ring, or digital camera. So just call and see what you need to do in order to extend that coverage to a laptop.
    I've actually seen on the forums before that some people actually had some sort of accidental coverage policy at their insurance agency without even knowing it, however i bet that is pretty rare [8D]
    In any event, its a good idea to have coverage if you have kids, or a wife (as I just found out, my wife keeps jabbing the screen with her finger every time she wants to show me something she found on the internet! ARGH!)
    But in any event, I'm just trying to save you some money, hopefully you will get the best deal.[ :D]
