    Hello

Would like to replace my drive and wonder what's the largest supported internal drive capacity is? I heard that 120GB is the limit without the need for extra power but also heard that this model has been sold with 160GB drives. I have no separate power so would like to make sure before buying a drive. Btw, any idea whether this controller is SATA300 backwards compatible? Heard some chipsets are, some not. Any experience? I'm running the A17 Bios.

    Thanks for your efforts,

    Martin

Good. Since I haven't received an answer I'm trying my luck with a Fujitsu MHZ2320BH 320GB SATA II drive. Will report back.

The 128 GB limit only is for older notebooks and computers. Yours will be fine.

Thanks, very appreciated. I asked Dell support and they meant 'anything beyond 160GB is questionable'. Then did a quick search and seen that others are running large 320GB with a 6400. Chipset seems fine too with regards to SATA 300 to SATA 150 backwards compatibility. Let's see and be surprised..

No trouble at all with install? I'm about to have to replace the hard drive on my E1505 and although I really don't need that much storage, it would be nice to have. It's also gonna be my first hard drive install (starting from scratch with no clone etc.) so I've been researching a lot lately and appreciate your post.

No, you won't have any trouble replacing the hard drive as long as you have the reinstall CD and the necessary drivers.
