Has anyone experienced a problem with their fan running on overdrive upon startup or returning from Standby mode?

I've only had my laptop for about 1 month and this problem started a couple of weeks ago and happens quite often. The fan turns on and remains running at a high speed and is very loud. All the processes running on the laptop also slows down to a crawl.
I then have to reboot - sometimes it takes several attempts, before the laptop will start up and run normally.

I hope someone can help as it's starting to become a real pain.

are you sure that your air vents are free from dust?
have you checked the power schemes?

really, those are probably the only things that affect fan noise, otherwise the fan is screwed up. Contact DELL's tech support if you can't fix it.
