A couple days ago the hdd in my 6400 made erratic clicking noises and soon later it bit the dust.

Naturally I took out the offending piece of hardware and while pondering whether or not to toss it off my 26th story window in anger when instead I decided to load up Knoppix and fool around for a bit trying to get some drivers to work. I shut off my laptop then randomly decide to push the MediaDirect button.

Obviously it does not do anything (still missing a hdd) but ever since then, it does not POST anymore. No display, no boot error beeps, just the Caps Lock and the Insert LEDs flash on and off slowly. Anyone know what this might mean?

I managed to find a replacement hdd and while it spins up upon turning the laptop on, I don't think the CPU fan spins. I've tried resetting BIOS by removing the CMOS battery for 30 minutes, but nada. Would love some suggestions (warrenty is no longer in effect so I have no problems tearing this baby apart).

And it decides to boot up again after I messed around with removing memory sticks, hard drives, CMOS batteries, and their permutations. I guess the moral is, don't give up too easily...
