I bought notebook dell 6400 sa02 about 1 month ago..
because of modem problem,ı reınstaılled DISK C: agaın...ı guest ı dıd overcomıng and ınstaılled all drıver and utılities etc.ı dont know yet...wıll see.
anyway....than ı realizedthıng whıch ıs about battery power plan
..when ı get computer..ıt was wrıtıng ,whenever ı checked the battery condıtıon is advıced DELL.is made by.prıvate settıngs by dell... but now ıt s wrıting balanced......when ı checked the batery power plan sectıon ..there are 3 dıfferent sectıon..but u can also do prıvate settıng..
yesss....please ıf u know that settıng...or ıf u have dell inspıron 6400 sa02

Am I the only one completely freaked out by the dotless lower-case "i" phenomenon going on in that post?!
As to your question, you should be able to set it to whichever power plan best suits your usage. Just because it's "advised by Dell" doesn't mean it will magically extend the life or longevity of the battery. Have you installed the Dell Quickset application? Doing so would probably give you what you're looking for, but I'm not sure. -
