I just received my Inspiron 6400 today and... is there supposed to be a User's Guide or Owner's Manual? I was finding for ways to treat my battery(the right way) and the only booklet I received is the Product Information Guide.

How do i take care of my laptop battery? it's 9-cell

Is it good to be on the laptop when you're directly connected to the wall? I want to maximize my battery life, because I know some laptops after a few years, their battery lasts for 30 mins when recharged full...its got something to do with memory or something..

ok well i read up and i found out that voltage depression or memory effect of a battery NEVER happens on Li-Ion batteries... im guessing my laptop is Li-Ion

As sknighti stated, you can go to support.dell.com and find your manual.

On the battery issue, battery life is determined by the amount of discharges/charges you do. The more you discharge, then recharge back up - the shorter battery life you have because Li-ions are only rated to have 500 charges (If I remember right).

If you need more informaiton, check out batteryuniversity.com . They are really good with the tips and explanations of everything.

Yes, your battery is a Li-Ion. You can leave your battery in your laptop when it is plugged into the wall, but I wouldn't suggest doing this if you plan on leaving your laptop plugged in for longer periods (aka days/weeks). That just my personal recommendation, but I know users/moderators that actually leave their battery in 24/7 and have a lower battery rate than I do since I'm constantly using my battery.

um..wow i'm being bombarded by all these battery facts on the website...and me being 10 years old (im actually not) and i'm such a computer illiterate,

what is the best way to prolong your battery life? is it best to use the battery until 1%? Is it bad if i use it till 85% and then charge it up? What's bad? What's good? I'm still confused =\

I read once for longest life it's best to drain your battery until it has a 40% charge and then store it in your refrigerator.
