Plug in the charger and the screen gets brighter. Unplug the charger and the screen goes back to original state. Is this normal? No truebrite of anything just reg 15.4" 6400.

Yeah, the screen is set to the highest contrast when you plug it in.
If you don't want to have your screen lower its contrast when unplugged, turn up the brightness all the way up while it is unplugged. The contrast will then stay that way when you plug and unplug your charger. -
It's the power management profiles that do this.

change the settings in the control panel..everything will be fine..even i was surprised intitally with this hting in my inspirion 6400

You can change it in the power settings. It is better to keep it the way it is because if you make the screen brighter while running on Battery your battery will drain faster -

im not worried but i get the smae thing with my 6400, i set my screen on max contrast when on battery, then plug the mains in, and the screen goes ever so slightly brighter (hardly noticable)...

How can I make the screen brighter when not plugged in? I went to the control panel and coud not do it.
