Hello folks,
My inspiron 6400 motherboard has a problem, the fan works then it doesn't, the fan has been replaced and it behaves like the old one, I'm thinking a board replacement will solve the issue, but if anyone else has any idea's.
Thanks for any assistance.

I am typing this response on my E1505/6400 and if it broke down right now, I wouldn't even dare try to fix it. -
Hello japalax,
My name is Anue and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.
From the information provided by you, we understand that the issue still persists even after the fan replacement.
As suggested on the above post it could be an issue with the motherboard, however, you could try updating the BIOS, which could resolve the issue.
Please click on the link below and it would take you to a page, from where you could download the BIOS update. The link also has the download and the installation instructions.

Kindly update the results and we would be glad to assist you further.

You could try test the fan with i8kfangui and see if the fan works when you set it to turn on manually.

I have a motherboard issue with my E1505 / 6400. When I press the power button the 3 locks lights light up, stay lit for 5 seconds then that's it... No power at all. This was a great laptop and suddently it just stopped. I can't find anything wrong with the motherboard, it looks good. When I took this laptop apart, the insides look brand spanking new still. No dust in the fan because I took great care of it. I don't want to buy a new laptop, I like this one that I have bought a 9 cell battery for and a bunch of other accesorries. If anyone knows about a mobo issue with the mobo model DF214 that would great.

jason, it still sounds like something on the motherboard died. There is no issue, they just die. I know I'll be sad when my 1505 dies, Its gonna be hard finding a budget laptop that has a top notch screen for movies/light gaming. I updated everything in it but if the mobo dies I think its game over. Browsing ebay, its not really a refurbished item, just a very small handful of working pulls. Also ebay is being a and removed the top rated seller filter. -_-
