So i need someones help on which has the faster processor, better graphics card etc..... I've heard that some of the Inspiron models are grainy though? my main uses are the internet msn and a few games,(Zoo Tycoon, Sims),oh and does it matter if i have Vista business, or is it worth an extra 50euro for Vista ultimate?? and finally which do you think will last longer lol(incase keys fall off or it overheats and blows up lol) thanks for your help :)

Both notebooks seem similar in performance with Vostro 1000 having a slightly faster /better processor and a graphics card. Clock to clock, AMD X2s are notably slower than Core 2 Duos in most cases. But here we are comparing older Intel 32bit Core Duo (first generation) with a faster-clocked (2.0GHz) AMD X2 64bits processor, therefore the AMD may turn out to be the better one in this case. Xpress 1150 is also marginally faster than the GMA950 but still not a gaming card by any means (but I guess it will be able to handle sims at medium/low settings). Even though the casings of both I6400and V1000 are identical except for the Media Direct buttons, for me, Vostro’s all black design looks better.

IMO Business is the better OS, because even though it lacks some fancy multimedia stuff (which can always be replaced by much better free 3rd party alternatives); it has more important features like Windows domain support and Terminal server service among few other extras. You can find a detailed feature comparison here. Therefore I wouldn’t PAY EXTRA to get Home premium.

As I said before they both use more or less the same chasis, therefore quality will be identical.

Vostro 1500 comes with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo, which beats the AMD X2 hands down. And it consumes less power. With V1500 you also get the option to select a much faster dedicated VGA card and integrated WebCam + Mic. It also has the fancy MediaDirect stuff and extra media buttons. So overall, V1500 is a much better notebook.
