Today morning, my dad's inspiron 6400 just won't start up. Tried taking out the battery and draining power, reseating ram and HDD to no avail.
Not sure what the lights mean, but the num lock glows solid green and the caps + scroll lock blinks green. On the far right side, the power light glows solid green, and the other two do not start up.
What happens is, after the start button is pressed, the lights I mentioned above start working up, and after 30 seconds or so, the laptop automatically powers itself down.
Tried using adapter, battery, and together, and again to no avail.
    Help would be really appreciated,
    Thanks in advance

Could there have been a power surge?

Press the battery meter on the battery to make sure that your power adapter didn't die and drain the battery.

I hate to say it, but only Dell is going to know what those lights actually mean. They are a BIOS code that tells the user what is wrong....which is a huge piece of information you could very well need to solve this!

I sorta found a temporary solution. I just took out both the original sodimms and put one of the OCZ sodimms in and it powered on. Seems like BOTH ram chips that were originally in there somehow failed..

    Thanks for the replies :)
