Just wondering how the build quality of the 640m is. Others say it's horrible and that it looks cheap. Does anyone of you agree or disagree? Is it a deal or no deal?

the build quality is good and firm. NBR of the 640m mentions that it creaks and makes sounds when picked up, that aint true with mine! i dont like the white stripe thingy but you get used to it. So far it is good

I dont think colour is matter, design of 640m and E1705 is the same so with my E1705 I love it so much !! Actually I dont have time to look at colour of my Laptop because I pay my time on screen and performance ( quality of Keyboard, Case, ... are perfect ) .

I just recieved mine in the mail yesteday, and my initial impressions of the build are that it is well built and strong. It is a little thicker than some laptops in its category, but that does not detract from its portability IMHO. The screen does not have any flex, and I was concerned a little about the quailty of the screen, but after I popped a DVD in my concerns went away. The screen looks great even the matte verison that I ordered (since I am mainly using it for text applications.) I it is not heavy, and the latches on the screen feel very sercure, even if there is a little wiggle in it when it is shut. If I come accross any concerns, I will post them later.

I have the exact same impressions as ArmyLaw. While I am not thrilled with the white bumpers, I don't think that they are that awful.

However, my 640m feels fairly study.

I was expecting sub-par build quality with the E1405/640M. I've had experiences with an Inspiron 6000 that left a bad taste in my mouth (build quality is horrible). I was surprised with the 640m's magnesium chassis which makes the notebook much more sturdy when you have to move it around. There are some quirks with the build quality, but for the price you get what you pay for. Overall I'd say (for the price) the build quality is good.
