    How did you solve it, out of curiosity?

    I think it was more luck than anything else. Only other possible conclusion I came up with was that the laptop was overheating, but the place that it shuts down repeatedly every time seems peculiar. Anyways, after numerous failed attempts at loading the setup, I just let the laptop sit for a while to cool down as it felt really hot. On the following attempt, it worked.

    @Fragilexxx:
    Crashed near the end of the loading setup files process

    New issue:
    I installed W7 on this laptop, and the display is locked at either 800x600 or 1024x768. The actual max resolution is 1280x800, but I can't get it. Tried installing XP drivers for the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 card, but no luck. Recognizes monitor as Generic PnP.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Install the Vista drivers, not XP.

    There aren't any Vista drivers for this card. Anyways, fixed again through playing around with device manager.
    Thanks for your contributions

    PS.
    Confirmed the previous crashes to be because of overheating. Temperatures were at 92C (started crashing again the same way setup did). They have now miraculously fixed themselves :)

    What exactly did you do in Device Manager to get 1280x800? I had same
    problem of no more than 1024x768....looked like crap.

    That's why I gave up on Win7 on my 700M!
