    Hello all,
I have just bought an Inspiron 710m from Dell.ca and I thought I was getting the 700m looks as I totally didn't notice the new changed colours. After a week of arguments with Dell about whether they can change the keyboard to a black one instead, i got an answer that they can't becasue the motherboard used on this laptop is different.

However after going through this forum, i realized that really the only difference is the colour and few enhanced features. If it's true that the motherboard on the 710 is more enhanced, then should it not be easy for them to exchange the kb since it should be compatible.

Anyways I decided to give the laptop a try and I did for the past two days but I find the keyboard extremely uncomfortable not in terms of the size but rather in terms of the stickness of the key strikes and honestly after only an hour of typing in class i began feeling the pain in my rests, something which I didn't feel with the less stikier keyboards on my old inspiron 4000. The only reason I got this laptop is because i used my old one in school alot and it was heavy and big and i needed something smaller.

so instead of returning the laptop and having to pay 15% of the price for restocking which is about $500, i wanted to check here if someone can give me an answer of whehter a motherboard does make a difference regarding the kb cuz i'm planning to call back.

    thanks
    hanaa

Are the keyboards THAT bad? I was am returning my dv1000 and was looking for an alternative.. the 700m being one. Also, is heat/noise a problem with this laptop?

Well it depends on how much you use it and what other keyboard you were used to. I am used to the smoother Inspiron 4000 keys that are basically on most inspirons so this one is really not working for me and I think I am truly considering returning it.

I would use it primarily to take notes with so its pretty important. After my dv1000 is returned I narrowed it down to the 700m and the Asus z63a. I guess the 700m is off my list..

I've heard that the motherboard for the 700 and 710M are the exact same.
