Hi, any advice would be appreciated.

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 7537, and overall am underwhelmed with the performance. Its very laggy on certain things when scrolling or resizing windows - namely Chrome, PDF files and word documents. Slower than my old laptop which is a much lower spec!

I spoke to Dell and they have offered me an Inspiron 7547 - however, looking at the specs on this it seems only marginally different to the 7537?

The 7537 has a hybrid drive, and 1.8GHz Intel Core i7-4500U processor with Nvidia GeForce GT 750M

    The 7547 has a normal HDD and 5th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-5500U with AMD Radeon R7 M270 4GB DDR3

Am I going to see much / any difference with the change and the extra cash outlay?

    Thanks

I'd take the 7547 if I were you, mate. Then put an SSD in it so the performance won't be bottle-necked by the horrendously slow HDD. Which resolution does the 7547 have and how much more do you have to pay for it?

Hmmm ok thanks. Dell has offered a refund on the 7537 - I paid £700 for it. So if I then bought a 7547 would the extra cost for this and buying an SSD drive make a significant difference in performance? Also, assuming I installed an SSD drive how do I put the operating system onto it as there is no CD drive?

you can install your operating system from USB but be sure you know what you're doing. If not better get some help with that

The SSD will rock your world! And your machine will be so fast that it can time travel (not really). You can ask Dell to send you a usb with the operating system in some cases but if you've never done such thing, I'd recommend you to just get the model with an SSD already. Sometimes, you might have to change the setting in the BIOS so your machine recognizes the SSD and boots from it etc...It can be bothersome for a few people who are not a tech savy.
