    Hey,

I just got my Inspiron 7567 and so far I'm having a great time with it, aside from the terrible panel. I was preparing myself for it and knew beforehand I was gonna order a different one and replace it myself. I tried looking for panels online but there are many different models and I got no idea where to order from.

Plus, I wanted to get another opinion, what do you think is better, a 60Hz IPS display, or 120hz and a (hopefully) better TN display ?

Either way, if you could link me recommended panels for both options, it'd be great.

    Thanks in advance !

That system, as with many other Dells, supports a vast number of mutually-incompatible panels due to the same model having different motherboard variants. In order to find out which panels are compatible with your specific system you need to know the currently-installed lcd. Run Moninfo and copy/paste the ' Raw data' section at the bottom-right of the window or use ' File -> Save as .bin' and upload that somewhere.

As for the replacement; glossy or matte and better colours or faster refresh rate? It really depends on what you mainly use it for. For fps or other fast-paced games a 120Hz would be great, yet for movies you may want a better gamut and deeper blacks. Outdoor usage needs better brightness and for generic office-work/staring-at-a-screen/browsing a high backlight refresh-rate might be preferable (limiting eye-fatigue).

First and foremost, thanks for the quick reply !

To be honest, I'll probably use it mainly for games and most of time it will be used indoors. My PC setup includes dual monitor setup with one being 144Hz TN (Asus VG248QE) and the secondary monitor being a 60Hz IPS (Dell U2312HM). Although you can't really ignore the great colors and viewing angles on the Dell, the Asus has pretty good colors too, and the 144Hz is just butter-smooth for FPS and games in general.

I also do video editing which may make you say "go with the IPS for better colors", but I think a decent TN will do the job fine. (When editing on my PC, I use the main monitor which is the Asus)

    Here's the moninfo bin: https://filebin.ca/3QycYu5TeVCV/dspinfo.bin

Ok, it's a Chi-Mei N156HGE-***, one of these. Can't be more specific since its edid doesn't list the full part number (the sticker on its back or pcb will be more definitive). From the pnp id (CMN15C4) it's likely the N156HGE-EAB, which is indeed rather terrible.

Specifications for compatible panels, no matter which HGE it actually is:
    • backlight (WLED or CCFL)
    • interface (eDP or LVDS)
    • pin count (30, 40 or 50)
    • number of lanes or channels (1, 2 or 4)
    • pin pitch (0.4mm or 0.5mm)
    • lcd input voltage (3.3V or 5V)
    • connector location (bottom left or bottom right)
    • mounting type (screws or double-sided tape)
Bit of a run-of-the-mill configuration, which is to your benefit; lots of models to choose from. Narrowed it down to three very nice options:
These are pretty similar; great colours, low blacks, high contrast and matte+ips. Just so happens these models had reviews and their on-paper specifications were also decent.

As for ordering one; almost every seller supplies ' compatible' panels or ' replacement for model xyz', meaning that in this case you could receive anything from about 140 different panels (these all being 'compatible'), including your original HGE. Best option is to simply order a used example, saving also the hassle of returns when the supplier promised to ship an exact model yet didn't. Only two on ebay atm, though:

Perhaps, but the problem is that panelook doesn't accurately list that with most of the 120Hz panels, claiming these are 60Hz instead. If you can gather a list of 15.6"+120Hz panels then look up their panel numbers in this list and check back with any that match. That list isn't 100% because some of the crittical specifications, such as 30 vs. 40-pin, can't be found using an advanced search.

    How about this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/192047673461?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Someone linked it in a reddit thread and according to the comments it's compatible with the 7567 and works great.

Can't find its specification sheet and Panelook doesn't have it listed yet, but the proof is in the pudding; if people have it running as pnp on the 7567 then there's no problem. Dell does mix-and-match different, incompatible displays within the same series, but with eDP that is pretty unlikely.

Colours and blacks aren't as good as the other three, yet otherwise it's a display well above average and a very nice improvement over your HGE.

Mind that the ebay listing is for a 'compatible' panel, so you risk receiving a different model. Even a 60 Hz is possible since the refresh rate isn't specified (and low-Hz screens will run on high-Hz systems). Message the seller to ask for an exact model or look for a different supplier if that can't be guaranteed.
