Decided to repair my Inspiron 8100, partly for fun, don't make fun, and also to learn something about notebook repair, I am fairly proficient on desktop repair.
Anyway I bought a new LCD since the old one cracked, no idea how that happened btw. The old one is now gone, wish I still had it for troubleshooting. Anyway the new screen worked fine but then I had to open the machine up to reconnect the touchpad, no idea how that came undone, but it is not a very secure connection, thanks Dell.
The screen did not work when I put everything back together but did work after I took it apart, meaning the screen was sitting on the table and the connection was made from it to the video card. I put it back together did not work. Took it apart and it worked again. Put it back together did not work. I'm really pissed at this point and think that somehow the cable is getting crushed or something and take it apart again. Now it doesn't work.
What do you guys think the problem is that it's not working even with the case taken apart now. Obv even if I get it to work now it still is not seeming to gonna be able to work with the case closed. I ordered the replacement off of ebay if that can help in the assesment here. I would hook it up to my external monitor to make sure it's just the screen but now I have to find the old analog cord to hook it up, might just buy one at Best Buy, see if it works, and then return it. Assuming that works fine any other suggestions. Thanks.

It looks like possibly the big orange tape coming from the screen might be slightly coming out of the connector on one of the sides. Is there anything to do about this, not sure at all if this is the problem but just a suggestion in that it's not making a complete connection idk correct me if I'm wrong.

i have tried the screen repair once on my old dell latitude d520. it didnt work when i put it back in. the trouble was with the power connector. in the d520 i took it thru the wrong bay and got dislodged on screwing it back. this is the connector for ccfl backlight. make sure you connect this properly. the orange ribbon signal connector wont make much trouble here i guess
