My 8200 HD crashed and it's $1,600.00  to recover it and that's too much so I am just going to replace it.
After a long and fustrating phone trail with Dell it looks like they are the only ones that have the replacement......$279.00.
So is that my only option if I want to get this up and running?
At this point it will be a back up machine.
I looked at e-bay for drives but I am not savy enough to know if they will work with the 8200.

    Thanks D200Driver

Recovering data from a hard disk doesn’t mean repairing it. Therefore if the data is not important then there is no point in trying to recover.

You can replace the hard disk yourself. A standard 2.5” IDE notebook drive will work. A 100GB notebook hard disk can be easily found for around $100. Download the service manual from the DELL support site. It has details on how to remove and replace the disk.

The only reason that I question your replies is that Dell said that the controller for the CD was built into the hard drive.........

Got it I know how to take it out I did that to send it to the vendor to have them look at it for recover. I was told that the reason that the drive went bad was that the controller for the "optical drive was bad" read cd and that was built into the hard drive...called Dell and they said yep it is..so not being a hardware expert I post the question her and with 900 plus post you must know your stuff! I am just giving more background. I too thought a drive was just a drive and no more.
