I've googled it and found no answer, so I'm appealing to you guys for help. I have an Inspiron 8500 with a bad motherboard. Is the motherboard from an 8600 interchangeable?
TIA!

I believe that as far as form goes, they are physically compatible boards. However, keep in mind that the CPU from your Inspiron 8500 (Pentium 4-M) WILL NOT WORK in an Inspiron 8600 (Pentium M) board (assuming my assumptions about your CPU is correct).

Cool, I prefer the Pentium M to the Pentium 4-M anyway.
Can anyone else verify that the boards are physically identical otherwise?
Also, do you think the graphics card will work the the 8600 motherboard? -
Are the buses the same. Do they use some kind of portable AGP spec? If so then it would only be a driver issue right?
**edit for clarity**
I'm talking about using the 8500's graphics card in the 8600 (or D800 or M60) motherboard.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Just from the fact that a lot of eBay auctions are listing video cards for both the 8500 and the 8600, I'd say yes, they are compatible.

Good answer thanks for the quick response!

Thanks for all of the help. I ended up getting a D800 motherboard and it works great.
Thanks again for the help.
