    Hi there,

A few months back my hard drive died and I had to install a replacement sent to me by dell. Everything is ok, but now I don't have any battery meter! I don't even get a warning when the battery is low (only the oranage light on the indicator leds.

I looked around for info about this on the Dell forums, etc, but didn't find anything conclusive and finally gave up so I guess I will try my luck here...

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    -Lobos

That's pretty weird. Have you tried toggling the taskbar icon through the power properties? If you haven't go into "Power Options" through the Control Panel and go to the "Advanced" tab. Under that tab you should see a checkbox for "Always show icon on the taskbar." Toggle that and see if the indicator comes back up.

That's a pretty half ass answer, but sometimes stupid and simple works.

Hmmm, I just did this and thought yes it works, but the strange thing is even when I pull the plug outta the back of the computer it still says "on ac power" and the battery icon doesn't come up....

It's like all battery monitoring is gone... I can remember a little blue lighting bolt used to show over the plug icon in the task bar and this doesn't show either...

Damn I thought I had it there too...

thanks for your help thus far, any further ideas?

    -Lobos

You sound like your missing Dell Quickset. It can toggle your battery and volume "meter" that you see on your desktop. Try downloading it.
