Is the 9100 fan noise fairly louder than the 8600? Also, is the noise of either notebook loud enough to bother you while doing a quiet task such as reading in the same room?

    Thanks.

I personally think my 8600 is pretty quiet. When the fan turns on, I hear it, but it doesn't bother me at all if I or someone else is doing something quiet.

i had both the 9100 and 8600 and there is a huge difference in noise. The fan is ALWAYS on with the 9100, and isnt afraid to go on high with medium use... the 8600 fan isnt on with light or medium use, and when it does go on, its only on slow. The only time ive seen it go on high is when playing video games, and u usually cant hear it over the game then.

    hope that helps

My 8600 is really quiet. The only thing that bothers me is the barely perceptable, high-pitched whine I hear when everything else is quiet. It seems to stop when I am typing or clicking, but then starts when I leave it alone. Has anyone else noticed this? It drives me nuts!

My 9100's fan is very quiet. Compared to my old 8000, it's silent. The 60 GB, 7200 drive I've heard people talk of being noisey is very quite as well.
