hey, i've recently received an i8600 machine w/ 512 MB ram. i'm interested in upgrading to another 512 and was wondering how difficult it is to install the ram. i know crucial has some pretty good deals, and from what i've read on their site it seems that the place to put the ram is underneath the keyboard. has anyone had an experience with installing ram, and if so how did you do it? Thanks for the help!

Installing RAM in the 8600 is very easy. Underneath the laptop is a cover that is unscrewed, inside which are two slots that can be upgraded to a total of 2 GB. Memory chips simply snap in, close the cover and you are done.

Did you purchase one 512 RAM chip when you first ordered the system? If so, then there should be an empty slot (located on the bottom of the laptop) in which case you can easily snap in another 512 chip and have 1 GB total memory

However, if you purchased two 256 MB chips when you ordered the system, then you will be wasting one of the chips to put in another 512 chip, leaving you with a total of 768 MB.
