Hi I got my Dell 9100 a few days ago and have been really enjoying it. My question has to do with downloading and installing drivers for me Radeon 9700 graphics card I go. I can't find the right drivers to download. I have gone to ATI's website and downloaded the RADEON family drivers but when I click on install it gives me an error message that setup was unable to find the required componenents to be installed. Does this mean I dont need to update the drivers? or am I downloading the wrong drivers? please help, and thanks!

The drivers on the ATI site are only meant for their desktop cards, not their mobile line. The mobile GPU's must get their drivers from the notebook manufacturer, in your case Dell. There is a possible workaround for this though. The error occurs after running ATI's installer, it extacts the files and scans your system, then fails. This is not guaranteed to work, but give it a try because it worked for my HP NX7000.
1. After the failure message, it'll kick you out
2. You should have an ATI folder created with the driver files located in the last subfolder
3. Goto Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Adapter -> Properties -> Driver -> Update Driver -> (Advanced) -> Browse
4. Point to that last subfolder in the ATI folder
5. Continue install, if a popup appears saying that it's not compatible, just ignore and continue install
6. When install done, reboot and you should be set
Another alternative is to try the Omega drivers, if they have one for this card. You can locate it at www.omegadrivers.net

See "Catalyst driver incompatibility with mobile radeon" topic in the ACER forum. I think this will give you some good options to try.

I was in the same boat as you...you can go to www.omegadrivers.com and dl the latest omega driver (takes the place of the ati driver). Click ATI Radeon on the top...then click Win 2000/XP tab on the top and dl from the first mirror. Then go in to add/remove programs and remove your ATI Control Panel (Click all of its contents). It then will prompt you to restart your computer. Restart. Once restarted, install that driver and you are good to go. Any more questions...IM me at CRM1712
