My seemingly trusty 2005 vintage 9300 running WMCE has become somewhat of a slug recently.
Seems to take an age to boot up - even although virtually everything has been removed from startup.
It just doesn't seem to have much snap about it to be honest? It runs games and apps perfectly well in general.
I am using 2GB of ram in the machine and would expect it to feel somewhat more slick.
I did notice a difference going from the original 512MB to 2GB when I used to play Far Cry (it was like a different game!).
Recently, I've also observed a situation where the speakers make a very loud beep, almost a squeal then the laptop shuts down. The other week it did this and all of the lights stayed on but the display etc shut offI was in a bit of a panic as I always travel around and this is my portable entertainment system. Fortunately it rebooted without any drama

Generally it runs fine but I'm a bit concerned about this hard shutdown after the beep.
Any ideas?

could be that the battery was dying when this happened, was it plugged in?

The loud beep and shutdown following could be a indication of it overheating.
Take a look at the vents and see if there are any indications of blockages. Lint generally collects where there are vents.
Also the slower speeds could be a few different issues. One of them could be the overheating.
Second, there might be tons of spyware or a virus on your system.
I would suggest first cleaning out the vents using any powerful blower.
If you have a air compressor take it out there and blow the crap out. If you dont have one then you can buy the can of compressed air.
Also, before you blow using a air compressor blow a good amount onto your hand first and make sure no moister blows out also. If it does then you will need a inline moister filter.
Second, get Search & Destroy or ad aware, (both) and run those programs.
If that doesn't help it then you might need to get a anti virus program.
I use Microsoft Defender which works decent.
If all else fails then you might want to reinstall your OS.
Basically do a fresh reinstall of your system.
Make sure you save all of your important files on a external Hard Drive or if its low enough just get a USB Memory Stick.
Hope that helps.
