Hey guys, I have an Inspiron 9300 that currently has a 60GB HD in it and I'm about to leave for college, and simply put: 60GB is not cutting it any more. I'm looking to upgrade to a 250 or 320 gig drive, and I was wondering what the HD interface is, I'm not sure if it's SATA 1.5 or ATA. If anyone who has experience in this could give me tips and possibly recommend a good drive I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks

You could find out the interface yourself, by checking which driver is installed in the device manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, or download HD Tune, and check the Info Page.

It's IDE, I'm personally familiar with the model. I'd suggest just getting an external, it will be much cheaper.

Don't worry if its IDE, there are some pretty good, fast HDDs which have this interface.
If performance, get the Samsung HM160C, which is almost similar in performance when compared to the 7K200 and the WD3200BEVT ( Review), and if storage space get the WD2500BEVE (same as the WD2500BEVS, except for the interface), and you can check Tom's Hardware HDD charts for more info.... http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...tml?modelx=33&model1=427&model2=845&chart=142

And these drives are pretty cheap as well ;)
I heard the HM160C was available for 60 bucks at maybe zipzoomfly, etc
