I was thinking of buying an Inspiron 9300 and upping the RAM to a full gig. I was curious if it's better to get the RAM from Dell when I buy it or from another company. If it's better to get from another company, can anyone recommend a particular brand/model to go with?

    thanks in advance

don't forget if performance counts you need a matched set of 2 for whatever you are doing so to get 1gb you need 2x512. So it doesn' seem to make sense to buy one 1gb stick. Also apparently there is a close tollerance to what makes matched so you might not be able to buy another later too easily. I uess it is quite fussy.

Does anyone know anything about the trustworthyness of Transcend?

So if I'm understanding this correctly, if you order 1GB from Dell, they'll install 2-512MB modules (2Dimm). If you wanted to up it to 2GB, you'll need to get 2-512MB modules or else potentially suffer performance issues with a 1GB stick (SoDimm).

    Correct?
