I downloaded and installed the following flash update directly from Dell to an Inspiron 9300 with Windows XP Pro SP3 and SigmaTel C-Major audio drivers:

    TSST TS-L462C 24x Slim combo
    Release Date: 6/15/2006
    Version: DE07, A03
    Download Type: Firmware
    File Format: Hard-Drive
    File Size: 569 KB

Flash updated successfully, but all sound quality was poor immediately afterward (constant skipping/scratching). No apparent problem with SigmaTel; nevertheless, I did uninstall and reinstall those drivers, but to no avail. I do not know how to rollback to the prior version of the combo drive firmware (DE01). I disabled the drive through Device Manager, which corrected all other sounds. But when the drive is enabled in order to play CDs or DVDs, the sound again becomes unacceptable. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance,
    John
