    Hey All,
Well I actually just got done doing a fresh install of XP Pro and added 2 gigs of ram
As stupid as this sounds the 9300 runs marginally better than my old laptop
when I say marginally better it seems only about 25-30%

The specs on my old laptop are
It is a Dell Inspiron 8200
    P4-M 1.8 with 1 gig of ram PC2100 (Not a new Pentium M Dothan)
    64 meg ATI Raedon 9000
    60 gig 7200 Hitachi drive (main drive-O/S)
80 gig 5400 rpm IBM (modular bay-DATA STORAGE)
    Orinoco gold b/g client card
    15" uxga screen (1600x1200 resolution)
    24x CDRW/DVD combo drive
    on board Firewire
    PCMCIA USB 2.0 card

I was really hoping for double the speed ???

I did however order a ZD8000 it will be here on Wednesday May 4th as well to try to do some kind of comparison... ??

    The one that I ordered has a 6xx series Pentium 4 3.4
    the 256 meg video card
and all the other normal stuff

I am using the notebook primarily for Digital photography and photo editing so in the end it may come down to screen quality
and both machines have the standard 1440x900 matte screens....So which one do you think wins ???

I know heat is another issue that is totally gone with the Dell vs. the HP.......how hot does the HP really get ???

As for battery life.......I usually have it plugged into the wall.....My other solution is to use my 8200 as a travel or mobile machine because if I remove the one hard drive I can replace it with a second battery giving me about 3.5-4 hrs of battery life

Bottom line which machine is faster and by how much and which screen better ??

Don't get me wrong I really really like the Dell alot but is the HP really better ???

    Thanks for your help..........Stu

what do you mean by marginally? (what benchmark)

what is the configuration of the other machine (i9300)?

what process are you hoping to speed up with a new notebook purchase?

I can tell you I had both a ZD8000 and the X6000 compaq before I bought my 9300 and the only pros for the HP/Compaq would be.

they have the express card slot on the side where as the 9300 does not and you can get the dual core P4 the only other thing is that you can turn the touch pad off.

the cons thoe at least for me is they are alot heavier, they run hotter (just wait tell you've been typing on that thing for like 30 min. you'll know what I mean),battery life sucks plus the power supply is huge, and the video card is at least 2x better in the 9300.
