I have a Dell Inspiron 9300. With BIOS A03, I used to get idle temperatures for the CPU to be around 35 C and GPU temps around 50 C (using i9kFanGui). Now, after upgrading my BIOS to A05, the CPU hovers around 50 C and the GPU is around 60 C when idle. The jumps in temperature appear to be beause of different fan control in the new BIOS. Are these numbers normal? I heard somewhere that Pentium M processors can withstand temperatures up to 100 C, but what about my GeForce GO 6800? Is it really normal to be at 60 C when just using the 2D Windows desktop? When I play 3d games, the temperature shoots up to about 81 C. If the GPU temperature is not normal, I might consider replacing the fan if it is faulty.

I had a simillar problem on my 9100...turned out that the outlets for the fan was blocked with dust. I opened it up, cleaned it and now my computer is running normally again
-
I cleaned mine as well as I could without opening it up and the temps are the same. I always thought that opening the case voided the warranty. Should I open it to clean it better?

A05 actually cuts back on fan usage. I really dont favor it, but that is what dell has done. And the 6800 can stand up to 97C.

Thanks, that makes sense. Now, my GPU fan normally runs at ~3100 RPM. It doesn't increase to much more than ~3800 when the GPU is under load. Is this normal? I'm asking because the sounds it makes sometimes leads me to believe that it is failing.

your new higher temps are not normal, I would suggest you turn your fan settings back to their default and bring those temps down, you can leave them if you like but you will lengthen the life of that lappy if you get those numbers down. -
Ok, the new A05 does have the cpu floating around 45-50C and the gpu around 55C. I'm telling you that its all dell's fault. They stopped the fan usage for there new battery saving algorithm. Now i have a question. Is it alright to have the fans running all the time.

I'd say that I'd rather use the fans all the time than have the CPU or GPU die early. What is a normal fan speed for the GPU fan using the A05 bios?
-
i clocked it around 2800RPM at idle
-
Ok good, that's what mine is at. When I played Battlefront 2 for 20 minutes in a full battle, the maximum temperature of my GPU was 80C and the fan was spinning at 3100 RPM. Does anyone's GPU fan spin faster? I still think it's not spinning as fast as it should.

well last night, i chatted with a dell rep. the dell rep said for me to reflash with A05 to correct the temperature problem (basically have the fans running on low). I reflashed and still no change. Now I run i9kFanGui and the fans run on low all the time.
