    Hi all,

During reassembling my Inspiron 9300 (to upgrade the cpu) I did something wrong and now the laptop refuses to turn on. Instead of normal booting when I get the "power on" pressed the power led starts blinking frequently (2.5 blinks a second). Nothing more happens (fans, hard dirive, etc. don't start).

I tried turing it on with adapter, with battery or with both - the same result. I tried reassembling it again with the previous CPU - the same result. I tried swapping memory modules but it didn't help either.

Can you help me diagnose the problem?

    Thank you much in advance,

You either missed a connector re-assembling it or damaged the motherboard in the process of your upgrade.

Pretty much those are your only options. Like he said either you didn't insert something properly, or you fudged your mobo bro. Try taking it apart again and reassemble it one more time with all of the original parts. Go with only one stick of ram at first. Were you grounded when you did the work? As static is a real hazard when working on electrical components. You may have fried a "trace" and not even known it. Good luck, and keep us posted. :)

BTW. I see this quite frequently when I work on customers laptops. They take it apart and when they put it back together it doesn't work. Usually it is just a missing plug or a loose connector. A few times though it was DOA and only new/replacement parts will fix it. Where are you located? I am in WI.

Well, there's not that many connectors, and I did reinserted all of them again and again, but no change.

As for the static electricity - I didn't pay much attention to it, and might have really fried some "trace" :( Fortunately this laptop is not very new and I considered replacing it sooner or later. So, maybe the right time has come :)

Anyway thanks for your help! BTW, I'm from Russia :)

static electricity is something one has to be concerned about, espically the cpu and memory modules. cpu and memory modules are more sensitive to static electrictity that any other piece of hardware, but one must be concerned with the other hardware as well. double check your powerconnections to the motherboard, since you are not getting power to anything.

I tried reattaching and reinserting everything, but still can't get any reaction from the notebook other than that blinking.

if you upgraded with a new cpu,,,try the old one and see if it works...did you put thermal past on the cpu? that is a must

check your junipers for your main power switch inside the computer they should be labeled. you probaly have them on in the wrong order.

I tried the old one with no result. I didn't apply the thermal paste - I thought it should at least boot without it, shouldn't it?

I didn't touch any jumpers deliberately.. maybe I did it accidentally. I'll try to check them, if I find them.
