Inspiron 9300 poor power connection.

Hi all. I sold my I9300 to my mom about 5 months ago when I got something newer, and right after I sold it to her, two columns of pixels on the screen died and the DC jack started acting funky. The pixels are hardly noticable, but the power jack is annoying her.

Basically, for it to keep contact you have to put a deck of cards or something below to keep an upward pressure on power jack to keep contact. I've heard this is a bad problem with these older dells...is it worth repairing? There are lots of companies online which offer DC jack replacement for ~$100. Would you guys suggest it?

I have had this same problem with the Inspirion 9100. It is not the DC jack that's faulty, but more likely that your adapter is dying. I bought a new adapter and everything works great. Look into that. Since the I9300, I think, is like the I9100, you prob need to buy a 150w adapter instead of the regular 90w.

 

Thanks for the response, but I forgot to add that I bought a new adapter and it didn't fix it. This is a problem that started off as not being that bad but it's gotten a lot worse.

 

Actually its the motherboard. You would need expert soldering skills to fix it. But most people get a new motherboard.

Where i work we have thousands of laptops and i can attest that toshibas and hp/compaqs dc jacks do not withstand as much as dell's do. Theres only so much beating that this type of connection can take. MAC's mag connector is a great invention and i hope other companies take on similar techs also.

How much would a replacement motherboard be from ebay?

 

Pushing $300... honestly not worth it (in my opinion).
