Hi I have a Inspiron 9300 notebook and when I push the power button the system will show 3 lights (caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock) then shuts off in 2-3 seconds. I did notice the scroll lock stays lit just a little longer.

I have removed all components including battery and running straight from power adaptor (which is good) and still same issue. There are no beep codes for missing memory. I walked through Dell's online process but it did not really indicate what the issue was.

So is it the motherboard, videocard, or the CPU that is shot? Any guesses? There are no other components to remove. Has anyone had the battery cause this type of issue? The system is not under warranty.

    Other thoughts:
I found that the battery is one that should be replaced (Sony) so that is on it's way. Also the battery charges fine, but I am getting the free replacement anyway.

    Hello Everyone,

Ok maybe I should re word this since there have been no responses.

Has anyone had any experience with the Dell LED codes or power issues where it will come on for a few seconds and then just turn off....on the notebooks? I can't seem to find much information on their website.

Anyone, if you have, what have you done to resolve it besides a new battery and power adaptor? I will appreciate the help and feedback :) Thank you!

    Howdy,

Your problem sounds a lot like mine. My 9300 started doing this right after the warranty ran out (over a year ago) which made me very happy...
I have since bought another laptop but have kept my 9300 because I want to solve the mystery.

    Here's the story:

Dell had replaced the motherboard and video card while still under warranty. Oh, and the lcd, which they damaged when replacing the mb and gpu. They also replaced hinges, front lcd trim and rear bezels, and rubber feet, and battery. So, as you can imagine, the thing looks brand new.

I was able to talk the tech that replaced everything into coming over and taking a look at it for me. He suggested the cpu may be bad. Since a new one was only about $35 I went that route. No fix.
I debated whether or not to replace the mb for obvious reasons. But I just couldn't stand it anymore so just yesterday I put a refurb mb in it....and....no fix.
After sitting there staring at it for a few minutes with mixed emotions, I had an idea. I pulled the gpu and pressed the power button and to my amazement it started!?

SO, I guess that means the culprit, at least in my case, is the hard to find and pricey nVidia GeForce go 6800.

    That's my story.
