Hi, I am new to this board and a new Dell user. Just got my I9300 a few weeks ago..I am quite happy with it, except for the amount of heat that comes off the bottom on your lap..quite hot!. A wonderful machine.

However, I am getting quite annoyed by this sound coming out of my right fan..like a humming sound..sounds as if air is being circulated. It is on constantly..not very loud but its on and I know its not the fan(have heard them come on ocassionally) :noisyfan: ...anyone have this same problem? Or am i just paranoid?

I tried to get the updated bios but was told I already had the updated bios... any comment, suggestion, or idea would be great. Much appreciated.

    Yukoner.

Maybe its your harddrive? the HDD is located on the rightside under the PCMIA slot. I hear my fans, but its like Shagrath said, its not very loud.

The bottom will have a tendency to get very hot. My RAM module gets very, very hot. I'm currently doing a review on a product called laptopbumpers ( http://www.bodelin.com/bumpers/ ) that will actually help with the heat issue. If you are always using your laptop on a desk, you might look into getting a laptop cooler.

that is possibly the worst commercial ever. i dont know what's worse, the gong at the end or the name of the product itself

It's not a bad idea. I use some empty cd cases to do the same thing. Personally, I don't like the idea of attaching something to my laptop with what I would assume would be some sort of sticker.

There are other means of doing the same thing...if you google it there are several types of "stands" for the laptops, alot of which will allow extra circulation to the bottom of the computer.

If you just got your I9300 then you probably have the latest Bios version which I think is A05. Watch your screens during power up/boot up as they go by and I think u'll see the Bios version. Be sure to sign up at Dell.com for a "My Account", have your service tag ready and browse the system file updates for your system.

heat doesn't really matter in my opion if it is within hardware spec. computer components have such a high heat tolerance nowadays its not that big of a deal. i dont even notice mine really. its more of a leg warmer than a heater or something.

Hmm, Computers had the same heat tolerance they always had. They mightv't improved on insulation though.

However, if you can keep it at its coolest, you'll have a computer that performs better and has a longer lifespan.

Not really. In the past if someone said 70C, people would flip. Nowadays 70C and high end graphics cards go together.

Um even today, 70C would flip a card, actually today many people consider anything over 60C to be really bad.

I rec'd my 9300 2 days ago. First thing I noticed was the amount of heat on the bottom - back by the rear ports .. but on each side (left and right).

I attributed this to the go 6800.

Besides the keyboard catching my fingers when I type, it's my main complaint about the system.

Guess I'll look for a laptop cooler. I'm a firm believer in a cooler system runs better and lasts longer.
