I'm was wondering what is the difference between getting a 9300 with all the upgrades or getting XPS Gen2 with the same items installed. Is the cases that much different? Is one better that the other? What is the differance?
    Pentium M 760 (2GHz), 256MB NVIDIA GeForce, 17" UltraSharp Display with TrueLife, 512MB GB DDR2 Dual, 60 gig 7200 rpm HD, 8x CD/DVD burner(DVD+/-RW), 9-cell Lithium Ion Battery, Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 and Windows XP Professional.

Thanks for all yalls help. I'm glad there's some smart ppl out there!!!

I think the nVidia card is different in the XPS 2 - an nVidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra VS. the 9300 which has the nVidia GeForce Go 6800

    http://www.nvidia.com/page/go_6800.html

not sure of the exact diff - check the URL above

    Dell 9300 * 2.0ghz sonoma * 1gig ram * 256mg nvidia wuxga * xp media center * dvd dual layer * 80gig 5400 * bluetooth * wireless a/b/g *

    Passnbyu,

There's a few differences. There is a thread with the exact subject you just posted....maybe you should consider deleting yours , go to that one (It makes sense because the subject is exactly the same....Or possibly change your subject to make it different) because it might already have answers for you to look at!

There are differences! Not a major amount but enough. Go take a look at the "subject almost identical !

    Passnbyu,

The exact subject post ...right now is on page 9 with only one reply. So It's probably worth it to post it again. Now you already purchased the 9300. Are you just curious or thinking about changing it ? I know the oracledba is correct about the video card and of course the look with the choice of color you want is impressive. I liked it! I know a few more details but other people have the knowledge to be more specific.

Hopefully, You'll get some replies that will help you !

    Thanks Heart,
No, I haven't bought one yet. I started looking at the 9300 about three weeks ago. I wanted something with a 17" screen. That was my main concern. I'm going be using it for a Auction house. To do the clerking on. I just thought I would ask the differences because most of the option were the same. I will look for that thread. I looked over them once to see if there was any. I must have missed it. Thanks For the help!!

XPS2 is really the same as the I9300 juse because base of xps2 is 2Ghz and 6800 "ULTRA" while the 9300 is 1.6 Ghz and a 6800.

It really depends on what u want 6800 ULTRA or the 6800-in which if you do decide Dell way of marketing is PERFECT in which you can't add the ULTRA to the 9300 because WHO THE F would buy the XPS aying more to add the ULTRA than 6800. So in other words if you want a better Graphic card you gotta get the 2Ghz + 24xCD Burner with an ugly custom case just for the XPS2 which I think is TOTAL rip off since its really just the 6800 ULTRA that makes it better.

PS- I wouldnt mind getting the XPS2, why so I can play HL2 on high detail ^_^

and the XPS2 is a beast on the 3dBench 05

Base I9300 is like 3892pts some people OVER clack and get around 4678 or something while BASE XPS2 is 5000pts

Its just the ULTRA that make it Kick ASS! + the 2Ghz that comes along with it hehe.

If you want THE gaming notebook right now, the XPS2 is it, with a minimum 25% performance gain over anything else right now. The GPU has an unreal score of 410 or something, the best I saw previously was an unreal score of around 279 ....
The sysmark scores have been the same between the 9300 and the XPS2.
Wait until the dual core chips make it to the laptops and that will change. Intel has them and AMD is coming out with them - but not sure for mobile use. they need to be cooled ...
My only wish is that Dell put an AMD mobile 64 in the 9300 .They are superior to Intel, however the centrino arch has them beat with power/heat savings. The sonoma 915 chipset is better than the 855 IMHO. cooler and quieter. I had an AMD64 in a 17" notebook and the fan was on constantly.

    Dell 9300 * 2.0ghz sonoma * 1gig ram * 256mg nvidia wuxga * xp media center * dvd dual layer * 80gig 5400 * bluetooth * wireless a/b/g *

There has been quite a few threads on this already I believe, all over the forums, at least one in the Hardware forum, one in the News forum... etc

The main difference is, of course the 6800 Ultra part, which is ONLY available in the xps2. What makes the xps2 special? The 6800 Ultra simply KICKS MAJOR ASS! It's performance is roughly 40% better in stock form than the Go6800 or anything equivalent (i.e. the x800). There is nothing that even come close to the performance of the Go6800 ultra right now, period.

xps2 is designed as a gaming notebook, and right now it *is* the fastest gaming notebook on the market. no competition.

To give you an idea, several posts down I have a thread "post your 3dmark 05 here" -- where everyone is posting their 3dMark05 benchmark score of their computer. The 9300 w/ the Go6800 averages about 3300 stock, the xps2 users, with their Go6800Ultra, averages about 5000+ stock! With maximum o/c, the Go6800 can achieve a score of a little over 4000 -- still more than 25% slower than the *STOCK* 6800Ultra! The xps2 is a beast, simple as that.

    cheers,

    yass

Thanks PPL, It looks like I'm staying with the 9300. I wasn't sure. I looked though a lot of the other threads. After awhile the ADHD kicked in and everything started looking the same. Ya know. This was a lot of help. My old laptop is a Thinkpad. I just want to get away from the mouse they use and go back to a touch pad. It drives my crazy. Thanks
