My inspiron's geforce 7900GS seems to be dying as of writing this. There are clusters of green artifacts in areas where the screen should display black. Moreoever, there is a blue line cutting across the screen.
I do remember reading that this model of inspiron used a module based gfx system. Would it be worth giving it a try?
What are these modules called and how much should I be expecting to pay?

This model of Inspiron does offer a replaceable video card:

You may be able to buy a replacement from Dell at an exorbitant price... or you can buy a replacement from ebay at an exorbitant price.

If you buy from ebay make sure you get something that's got some guarantee that it'll work. Don't get it as-is. -
You're in luck that they are replaceable, however, they look very expensive.

If you want, you can also upgrade to the quadro fx2500m / nvidia 7900GTX. I know its possible. I saw this guide, and I upgraded my friends inspiron 9400 to a 7900GTX

Good luck with the upgrade and new graphics card
