Inspiron 9400 battery

It says in the Inspiron 9400 manual that, in order to preserve the BIOS settings etc, I shouldn't remove the battery from the laptop at all, unless I plan to store the laptop for a long time.

However, I read in several places that the battery will be continually charged and recharged after it discharges itself to 95% even if it is plugged into AC power.

Since I rarely use the laptop on battery power only, should I remove it anyway?

 

i think the manual is on about the single-cell battery located on the motherboard, not the actual laptop battery that you charge/discharge etc.

Also i dont think that the laptop will not work work without battery, regardless of whther the AC is in there, because the battery "completes the circuit" making the circuit work as there is a sort of "start" and "finish".

i might be wrong, if so, correct me...

 

The battery you are referring to Hamanu is for Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor, and also called CMOS(usually a coin battery). CMOS is an onboard semiconductor chip that stores all the system information, like time, system setting, etc.

i belive you are able to run your notebook without a battery pack; but personaly i have never had the pleasure taking out the battery. but i dont see the reason why can't you?

 

I was referring to the following from the manual. I think they mean the main battery

Is it not in the best interest of a company that not only sells laptop computers but also sells the batteries to tell you to keep the battery in the laptop at all times? It has been proven that constant charging reduces the life cycle of Litium-ion batteries. But if you take a lithium-ion battery for a long duration and it completely drains, then you also ruin the battery.
