My 9400 emits a loud beep when I close the windows meida center. It is a system beep, it sounds even if the laptop is muted. Is there an easy way to control the volume of the system beeps. Or better yet does anyone know why the system beeps on exiting MCE

You could try disabling your PC speaker. Details of how to do that are located here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=43926

If that doesn't work, i would check the sounds that windows makes ( control panel --> sound & audio devices --> sounds tab. Windows has sounds for several functions, but you can disable it or change it all.

Thanks, disabling the beep did the trick. The last dell laptop I had had a volume setting for the PC speaker in the BIOS.

I have found a quicker way to do this:
There is a checkbox for PC Speaker Mute in the Volume Properites > Advanced menu.
