    Inspiron 9400 w/2GB RAM - 533MHZ or 667?

    Two-part question:

    1.

I killed quiet some time yesterday trying to read all possible forums to figure out whether it would make sense to pay extra USD$308 for 2GB 667Mhz RAM versus getting 2GB 533Mhz for only USD$78.

The price difference seems rather steep but, according what most are writing, the difference in performance is either absent or minimal.

Perhaps someone has researched this topic and could shed some light? I wish this would be a sticky, since this truly made my (and I bet many others') choice difficult. I went with 533 but still have time to change my order.

    2.

I also chose to go with Inspiron rather than XPS1010, since you can now configure 9400 to have Core 2 DUO w/7900GS & the price difference between the two systems with identical specs is almost $700. Yes, XPS features a dual pipe GPU, better multimedia and other minor bells and whistles; however, how much else is different between the two systems to justify the $700 increase?

My only worry is that I wouldn't be able to upgrade my 9400 to 4GB RAM (although I read someone managed to do that) if I ever will have a need for that much memory.

    Thanks in advance!

well if i were you and I wanted a core 2 duo chip id make sure i can upgrade to 4gb ram other wise the core 2 duo is useless. Personally id save the money, get the 533 mhz and not bother with core 2 duo

    but thats just me

This one only comes with Cure 2 Duo. In fact, Dell sells Core 2 and Core for the same price.

You're right about the the ability to upgrade to 4GB in future. I just hope that 533Mhz RAM will not be too much different from 667 (real world difference, not the memory's potential on paper).

    Cheers.
